Sound in Sculpture Returns April 22

Landmarks

Sound in Sculpture returns April 22, with a dynamic performance of new music written in response to art in the Landmarks collection. Presented in partnership with Texas Performing Arts and the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music, this year’s program will take place on April 22 at 6:00 PM at Bass Concert Hall on the UT campus. The event is free and open to all.

Tim Rogers, Bike Öner, Joel Laviolette, and Noah Hudson-Camack, all students or alumni of the Butler School of Music, will present original compositions inspired by works sited at Bass Concert Hall, including: Amaryllis by Tony Smith; The Swan’s Dream of Leda by David Hare; History of Black Bronze I by Jim Dine, and Figure by Eduardo Paolozzi. The music will reflect a variety of styles and arrangements, ranging from electronica to percussion to a composition inspired by traditional Zimbabwean mbira music.

The event will begin at Tony Smith’s Amaryllis and transition inside Bass Concert Hall. Visitors may park at the San Jacinto Garage, or at any other available UT garage.
